The agro-machine parts manufacturers in Bangladesh use equipment similar to those in any engineering workshop, including lathes, shapers, drills, grinders, and welding machines. However, the power units (engines or motors) are not manufactured locally. Instead, machinery manufacturers purchase these power units from the local market, along with some critical components and parts from importers. Manufacturers then produce the remaining parts and components and assemble the machines locally.
Agro-machine parts manufacturers typically source cast items from foundries, components from other engineering workshops, and scrap items from scrap suppliers. Currently, about 84% of the parts for agricultural machinery are imported. End users often prefer imported spare parts over locally manufactured ones due to better quality and competitive pricing.
⚙️ Distribution and End Users
Local maintenance workshops, service providers, and farmers are the major end users of agro-machine parts. These end users usually purchase products from local retailers, who in turn source from wholesalers or directly from producers in Bogura and Jashore, the country’s key hubs for agro-machinery. Farmers and service providers from nearby regions also visit these zones to buy parts directly from retailers or workshops. In addition, large companies import spare parts and distribute them through their dealer networks and distribution channels.
⚠️ Key Challenges
The major challenges for manufacturing agricultural machine parts in Bangladesh include:
Non-availability of proper raw materials
Lack of testing facilities
High production costs compared to imports
